At its February meeting, the Executive Committee of the Connecticut High School Coaches Association approved the Rob Szymaszek Courageous American Award. The goal of the award is to recognize members of the interscholastic athletics community who have demonstrated unusual courage, persistence and grace in living with overwhelming personal challenges and have inspired others by their example. The award will be presented each year at the CHSCA Hall of Fame Dinner in November to male and female coaches, athletic directors and athletes who exemplify the positive, “Life is Good” philosophy that characterized the life of Rob Szymasek, the late Maloney High School football coach and CHSCA Past President.
CHSCA coaches, athletic directors and high school athletes are eligible for this award.
Nominations will be accepted from members of the CHSCA and must be accompanied with a narrative that supports why the nomination is appropriate.
Nominations are to be sent to John Fontana, P.O. Box 632, Southington, CT 06489. The deadline is June 1, 2008.
The final selections for the award will be made by the Ron Szymaszek Courageous American Committee which is composed of five members of the CHSCA Executive Committee.
